Whilst we have co-operated with various lime product suppliers over the years, we have a particularly close relationship with local specialists, Lime Stuff, who assist in testing the Quikpoint when required. For that reason, we offer a selection of their products, either for collection from our Romsey premises or direct shipment to site. We also benefit from their willingness to give advice and share the information they publish.
As confusion can arise through mis-use of terminology, we offer the following by way of general guidance:
Hydrated Lime - a dry product sold in most builders merchants which acts as a plasticizer in cement mortars. Such mortars are very frequently processed through the Quikpoint. But NOTE – adding hydrated lime to a cement-based mortar DOES NOT constitute a lime mortar.
Natural Hydraulic Lime (NHL) – a dry product, generally available in three strengths (NHL 2, 3.5 and 5) which when combined with sand and water, produces a mortar which sets and hardens relatively quickly. Widely used in historic building renovation and imminently suitable for use with the Quikpoint.
Non-Hydraulic Lime – known as Fat Lime, Lime Putty or Air Lime. Generally supplied as a “wetted putty” then combined with sand to produce a mortar; usually requires mixing for an extended period. Will be specified for sensitive historic building restoration, notably for it’s slow-setting and long-term permeability properties. Quikpoint has been used frequently with this mortar type, the usual qualification being that grit size should not exceed 2 mm in any significant quantity.
